We make you feel more secure with Australia’s strongest security screens and doors. We want you to feel that way for a long time. Thanks to a little maintenance, you will.
Doors and windows
- Loose deposits should be carefully removed with a wet sponge.
- A non-abrasive brush or cloth and a mild household detergent should be enough to remove dust, salt and other deposits. Don’t use steel wool, scrapers, scouring liquids or powders. These may scratch the coating surface.
- Rinse off with clean fresh water.
- If you need to remove paint splashes, sealants or other residue, use methylated spirits, turpentine or white spirits.
- Harsh detergents could damage the powder coated surface. Any detergent that recommends the use of gloves is likely to damage the powder coating.
- Use a soft brush to clean the mesh. This will remove particles that reduce airflow.
Locks, hinges and rollers
- Use a soft bristle brush to clean the surface. Avoid abrasive tools.
- Clean with a mild liquid detergent diluted in warm water.
- Ensure cleaning fluids do not penetrate the lock cylinder.
- Products with soft finishes e.g. gold plate, lacquered brass or chrome plate, require need special care.
- Don’t allow dirt or other contaminants to build up on the surface; they’ll discolour and impair the surface. Some change in colour, gloss or chalking may be expected dependent on exposure.
- Key cylinders should be lubricated annually, or if there are signs of roughness when you insert or retract the key.
- Remove any dirt, grime and salt deposits on and around the end of the cylinder barrel. Apply a small amount of powdered graphite to the key. Insert the key into the lock barrel to maintain a smooth action.
Tracks and rollers
- If screws within the track are loose, they can block the path of the door. Make sure you tighten them every few months.,
- Use your vacuum cleaner to remove most dirt from the tracks, then a brush or rag to finish the job.
- If you see anything stuck to the rollers, wash them well in hot soapy water.
- Rollers will dry out and crack with age. Don’t oil them as this will attract dirt to the rollers and tracks.
- Replace rollers as soon as you notice problems with them. Damaged rollers will cause irreparable damage to the track.
A little maintenance every now and again will help you get years of smooth, hassle free performance from your security screens and doors. That also means years of peace of mind, a feeling of security that makes some occasional maintenance well worth it.
